The Cyclone Festival Of Cycling

The Cyclone Festival of Cycling was created in 2007 to encourage as many people as possible to get out on their bikes, get fitter and enjoy the countryside over a summer weekend in beautiful Northumberland. The Festival caters for competitive and non-competitive cyclists alike with six public rides from 10 to 109 miles in length and with two elite road races for the best riders in the country.

Tyne 6 Bridges Leisure Rides

The festival starts with this great family/leisure ride on Sustrans' Routes along the north and south banks of the Tyne heading out in a westerly direction from central Newcastle. There are two rides of 10 and 16 miles. Though fun for everyone, these are ideal rides for inexperienced cyclists and those with young families.

Cyclone Challenge Rides

Four routes - 34, 65, 93 or 108 miles. The rides start and finish at the Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club and head directly out into the Northumbrian countryside on quiet, minor country roads. Riders enjoy a meticulously planned and signed route, with regular feeding/re-hydration stops, which also act as timing stations and medical control centres. There are also many cafés and pubs along all of the routes and many stop off and sample the local cuisine.

Cyclone Gravel

Three Ride options - one, two or three hours. A great way to get to grips with gravel riding on a spectacular 5 mile loop through the upper reaches of Hamsterley Forest, in County Durham. Great for younger riders (minimum age is 10) and for adults who want to give Gravel a try without committing to ultra length events. And a great way to cycle together as a family!

Curlew Cup & Beaumont Trophy

The best  riders in the country will compete in these two challenging and scenic road races, starting in the village of Stamfordham, where the races also pass every lap and finish. The women's race is called the Curlew Cup and the men's race is the Beaumont Trophy.
